Thomas Ford, MFT Intern
YOU CAN MAKE A POSITIVE CHANGE.
After 32 years as a Professor of Psychology, I have begun a new chapter in my life. I am pursuing a calling in individual counseling and marriage and family therapy. I am now a counseling intern completing MFT licensure requirements at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Pain and hardship in life are unavoidable. My approach, as a counselor, is to walk alongside you in the midst of difficult challenges, to listen nonjudgmentally and to offer helpful perspectives, guidance, and resources. I hope that through our work together you will feel better equipped to live a fuller, richer, and more meaningful life, a life guided by your values rather than one ruled by self-defeating patterns of behavior, or painful thoughts, memories, and emotions.
I draw from different theoretical frameworks and use different therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Structural Family Therapy (SFT). Also, as an Intern, I draw from the wisdom of my clinical supervisor to meet a client’s unique needs and goals. Finally, I offer a Christian faith-based perspective for those who desire it, but also honor and respect those of other faith perspectives.
Seeking counseling is courageous and I admire you for it. I would be honored to walk alongside you as you take this critical step toward recovering a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
